My story begins in an alternate universe where scientific laws end, and human wonders prevail. Inspired by my summer project, these early illustrations trace the origin of my character, Ky.

It all starts inside a futuristic floating laboratory, where humans attempt to engineer a strange new lifeform: a machine with the head of an atomic bomb, designed to become the next weaponised super-being, Ky. But, as with all reckless experiments, catastrophe is inevitable. The engines falter, the structure buckles, and the entire lab erupts in a spectacular explosion—an event powerful enough to trigger a second Big Bang. From this cosmic blast, a swarm of bizarre, otherworldly creatures spill into existence, shaping wild new laws of physics and defining a universe ruled by chaos, wonder, and utterly maniacal energy.

Drawing inspiration from the philosophical concepts of Speculative Realism and John Latham’s Flat Time theory, I set out to build a universe that deliberately stretches, distorts, and even pokes fun at the laws of science. The result is an absurd, unpredictable reality where anything—and truly everything—can exist at once. I’m fascinated by the balance between playful, comical imagery and the weight of mind-bending philosophical questions, especially those that challenge our assumptions about life beyond our universe—or the possibility that there may be nothing at all.

The final exhibition piece showcases a triptych of sculptures and a poem, presenting a projection of these creatures slipping into our human spaces—oddly misplaced, and wonderfully peculiar, just as their origins suggest. I wanted them to feel foreign, as though they had wandered into a world where they simply do not belong.
